World’s Worst Humanitarian Crisis

Yemen was already the poorest country in the Middle East when the conflict broke out in March 2015, and the crisis has further ravaged the nation. More than 24 million people in Yemen are in need of humanitarian assistance to survive. Within five years of conflict, thousands of civilians have died and 3.65 million have been internally displaced.

Yemen is in a dire situation and this long-standing hostility has had a devastating impact on civilians’ lives. Based on a report from the World Food Program (WFP), 15.9 million people wake up hungry every day and the numbers are expected to increase to 20 million. Malnutrition rates among women and children in Yemen remain among the highest in the world. Around half of Yemen’s children under the age of 5 are stunted.

Yemen Faces a Potentially Deadlier Foe than the War

Just like any other country, Yemen also faces new challenges besides civil war, cholera, and starvation. The spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has caused hospitals and health facilities across the country to scramble for medical supplies to curb the infectivity.
In mid-June 2020, Yemen records its highest number of daily COVID-19 deaths since April. The emergence of COVID-19 is catastrophic as the civil war has already left the healthcare system in shambles. The healthcare workers currently lack medical supplies and personal protection equipment (PPE) to treat patients. According to the United Nations (UN), the medics themselves are vulnerable.

The situation across Yemen is dire, but we envision a better world for our sisters and brothers in need. Together with you, we can make that vision a reality.

Yemenis Struggle for Survival

“When the clashes arrived in our neighbourhood, we did not think to take anything with us and we fled with just the clothes on our back,” Juma’ah said. “Our houses were destroyed after we left the village. After we fled our house, it was hit in the fighting and our belongings were stolen, but we are happy that we are still alive.” - Juma’ah Quhri.

“We live in tough conditions. My husband hasn’t received his salary for more than a year now and he is jobless like many others. We are unable to provide necessities such as food, clean water, and even hygiene for my children.

My daughter started to vomit at the beginning, but her condition deteriorated to having serious diarrhoea. I live on the other side of the city and didn’t have enough money to move my little child to another hospital to get better treatment. Many people die from cholera in my village. I don’t want my daughter to die." - Fatima.

“Every day, almost 16 million people wake up hungry. Even basic supplies are so scarce or expensive that families can’t put food on the table and mothers are so malnourished they cannot breastfeed their babies. These children, so weakened by hunger, are perfect prey for diseases like cholera and diarrhoea which drain them of the little strength they have left." -Naser Haghamed, CEO of Islamic Relief Worldwide.

Every Single Dollar Counts! Let's join us to be part of this campaign today.

“Protect yourself from hell-fire even by giving a piece of date as a charity.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

The Prophet Muhammad also said, "We (Muslims) are the last (to come) but will be the foremost on the Day of Resurrection." The narrators of this Hadith said: Allah said (to man), “Spend (in charity), for then I will compensate you (generously).” [Bukhari]

When schools around Malaysia reopened, many students from poor communities couldn't return to the classroom. A major factor was costs. You can help us counter this by providing them with school uniforms, shoes, school bags, face masks, and hand sanitizers.
